DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

I went down a rabbit hole this morning and returned feeling much better than when I started.

It began like it usually does, while reading a post on Facebook. This one was from a blog on a woman’s business website, and it was really good. I mean, I read it and felt like, “Geez, what a slouch you are. You wish you could write something that good.”

I’d met the woman before and knew of her work. She has a very mystical, magical approach to helping people and when I went to her website, I was hit with all kinds of terminology that I didn’t understand. I went straight to judgment and criticism, comparison, and self-importance. Luckily, I was rescued by the part of me that wanted to know more.

I Googled several terms I vaguely knew but wanted some clarification and it led me to this really cool website that described in terms I could understand, what’s great about being a magical and mystical archetype in your business. And as a bonus, it offered me a chance to complete a quiz and discover my true brand archetype.

AM I REALLY A SHEEP?

It said that as a magical/mystical archetype intuition can be your greatest strength and while your goal is to help others with this unique approach, people sometimes think you’re a flake. Well, that’s definitely not me. I pride myself on being the antithesis of ‘someone with odd or whimsical habits’, but when I looked up what the opposite would be, it said conformer, conformist…SHEEP!

Oh God, isn’t there something in between? Can’t I be a semi-odd person, or a partial follower or maybe a whimsical sheep? I want to be someone who can just come up with crazy wild ideas for innovations that no one else would dare touch and then prove everybody wrong by being a gazillionaire selling it to the highest bidder. Heck I’d settle for being someone whose blog post on Facebook was so good that the woman reading it wanted to know how someone so magical and mystical could also be so smart and wise, sensitive, and insightful.

LOGICAL AND MAGICAL

Being logical and analytical has served me well over the last 30 years. I was immersed in science and medicine but never once “created things that have never existed before.” Unless you count a listening ear and a compassionate heart in the lives of the people I helped.

My magic lies in my ability to recognize when a human is struggling emotionally, even when the note on their chart says “heartburn.” Or when a woman tells me that she prefers horses to people because horses don’t judge, and yet I sense her strong desire for human connection.

My potions and spells are the time I spend and the questions I ask that reveal the possibilities in each person I see. When I look to the future I see world-changing ideas that give  women of all ages a chance to live up to their full potential by learning life lessons from a horse while being inspired by the ability to communicate with and influence a creature 10 times her size. Now that’s magic.

THE MAGIC IN HEALING

My personal brand archetype quiz revealed that I am…surprise, surprise…a HEALER! It means I’m at my best when I’m empowering others to achieve wholeness. I’m driven by the desire to heal and create wellness. (My vision for creating how people’s lives could be is POWERFUL)! It says I like to nourish, nurture, and give people hope, but I must be careful not to think my path to wholeness is the only one (or that other people’s path is a bunch of hooey).

It also cautions me to pay attention to healthy boundaries and practice self-care as healers can get in over their head. This has been a lesson drilled into me for years and I still need a lot of practice in clear communication with scheduling, taking time off and not overlapping my work with my free time.

My archetype description goes on to say that I’m making the world a better place and how I soothe, calm, and empower others to do their thing. There are also words to encourage me to be uplifting and open minded with others and lead by example by living my message. And I was reminded, don’t be afraid to get real and be myself in everything I do.

THERE’S MAGIC IN US ALL

WOW! I went from reading a blog and feeling like I was a complete failure to, you are magical and have what it takes to help others in your own way. I just needed to be reminded once again that you can’t always believe what you think.

I didn’t believe that I had magical/mystical powers of healing and thought I was only capable of accessing my logical reasoning and rational thinking to help others. I believed that I was restricted in my ability to imagine and innovate or introduce new ideas and products.

In the Disney movie Cinderella, one of my favorites, there was a fairy godmother and a wand that transformed a tearful evening in a pumpkin patch for a sad girl with her farm animal friends into a magical night to remember full of beautiful music, fashion, and romance. The godmother not only conjured up a ball gown, a horse-drawn carriage and two footmen, she gave the young woman a renewed sense of wholeness and restored a feeling that she belonged in her life.

I want to do that. Correction, I am doing that. What I mistakenly thought was my lack of mystical/magical or spiritual insight, intuition and ingenuity is really just my limited interpretation of it. I have transformed people’s lives just as surely as the wave of a wand changed Bruno the dog into Cinderella’s driver. And the people who have magically touched my life have transformed me as well. Yes, it’s true-I can do magic!
